You may have seen the various TV advertisements about man cans, where certain men involved in certain activities quickly grow full bosoms, and are embarrassed. I went on to the website to find out what it was all about. It is run by the The Worldwide Organisation for Men Exhibiting Nanciness, and was “formed to help you understand, avoid and ultimately eradicate Man Cans from the world of men”.
This organization has not only produced a website, and TV advertisements, they have a form you can fill out if you require help, and/or wish to be contacted regarding upcoming events. The mancans website is sponsored by ‘Man Can Do’, ‘Celebrity Man Tape’, and ‘Bra Bro’, which are likely to not be authentic companies I imagine? Unfortunately (?) sales are suspended for the man tape product, and apparently many animals have found solace in the underwear shipping disaster.
So, I have a number of questions about this Worldwide Organisation for Men Exhibiting Nanciness. Most of these questions remain unanswered.
Who runs it? No names are attached to the site.
What is nanciness? I found out the answer to this one. ‘Nancy’ is a noun, which is meant to be offensive, and means ‘an effeminate or homosexual man’. I did notice there were no other terms used such as poofter, gay, etc., but nancy is really bad enough, right on its own.
So, are they trying to empower heterosexual men to not be effeminate?
Is it really a help site for those men who have developed ‘man boobs’?
Are they putting down effeminate males? I think so!
Are they determining what is acceptable behaviour for a man? Quite explicitly! For instance, you should have no interest in romantic movies (well, definitely not cry during them), and you definitely should be able to drive a manual car, and not use hair products.
Who is funding a) this website? And b) the TV advertisements?! One of the sponsors is ‘Wayne’s Kayaks’ or www.oceanpaddler.com
Is it ‘just’ meant to be a joke? How on earth are they ‘getting away with it’?
Is it actually a put-down not just of ‘metrosexuality’, but of other constructions of masculinity? Its hard to imagine such an obvious, blatant attack as this.
Who has time to do this?!
While I don’t think many men like the idea or reality of having mancans, this forum is ridiculous, offensive, and not even helpful. It has nothing to do with its purpose (see first paragraph).
