Theorizing the place of the body online
I've been thinking recently about how I might go about theorizing the body in its relation to cyberspace. Fortunately (!) I've found work that has already done this very well.
Dr Angela Thomas discusses virtual embodiment that occurs, especially the process of being, becoming, belonging and behaving (Thomas 2007, p. 8) in her book entitled, 'Youth Online: Identity and Literacy in the Digital Age' (Peter Lang). Professor Ben Agger's book entitled 'The Virtual Self: A Contemporary Sociology' (2004, Blackwell) also engages with these concepts.
